LIST OF THINGS TO BRING FOR YOUTH CAMP

Hi guys here's a checklist of what to bring (or not!) to camp!

Day campers:
1) A change of clothes in case you get dirty/sweaty/smelly
2) Toiletries and towel if you intend to shower at the camp venue
3) Stationery and Bible
4) Water bottle

* Day campers are to arrive at church by 7:00am (on the 24th, 25th and 26th), and can leave by about 10:30pm each night. Sports attire is advisable as there will be many activities throughout the day and comfort is a must! :)

Regular campers
1) Enough clothes for the duration of the camp
2) Toiletries and towel
3) Stationery and Bible
4) Water bottle
5) Sport shoes and slippers/sandals
6) Small mat/sleeping bag/mattress and pillows, blankets etc for your sleeping comfort! :)

*All campers are to register between 3-5pm on the 23rd of March 2011, and camp ends at 2pm 26th March 2011.

Venue for the camp is ST. ANDREW'S CHURCH (in case you're still wondering) :)

What NOT to bring
1) Electronics (e.g. mp3 players/iPad/iPod/laptops) to avoid loss or damage
2) Illegal substances (e.g. alcohol, cigarettes, drugs)
3) Sexy, revealing clothes (for girls...ok for boys too!) :)
4) Mobile phones (try not to bring these in case you lose them... your parents can call us if there's anything) :)
5) Money (you don't need it at camp)

What you CAN bring
1) Snacks (but only to be eaten OUTSIDE the dorms)
2) Board games/playing cards

YDM CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS!

Hello hello!

Christmas is about 10 days away (from when this is posted), and because this Saturday (18th December) is the last YDM for the year 2010, YDM would be celebrating Christmas by having a little makan makan. It's a bring and share, so as the practice suggests, please do bring and share your cooking/baking (or your parents' signature dishes) with the rest of YDM. Yet although it's a bring and share, please also contribute $2 (to Sherly), for the drinks and for the BBQ that we would be having.

And Christmas, being the season of giving, we would have a gift exchange as well. Bring along a gift worth a maximum of $5 (Meaning, you must bring a gift that costs you $5 or less), so that you would be able to exchange your gift with someone else.

It would be from 3-6pm at the Parish Hall.

We were supposed to be in JPS at 1pm today (Friday, 12th November 2010). HOWEVER! The KidsGames we only had 7 days to prepare for has been POSTPONED!

I'm not sure when, and there is talk that the venue might change. Meaning, we may be doing it in another school.

Nevertheless, keep your dates free so that you would be able to help out when we've confirmed when KidsGames has been postponed to. =)

Hello everyone! It's November and in less than two months, we'll be entering the new year. Nevertheless, we've still got those two months and so let's make the most out of it.

YDM will NOT be on break this year, and would still continue through December 2010!
This gives you the opportunity to invite your friends during the holidays, when you're all free from exams, etc. Remember that one of the reasons YDM exists is to reach (out) to other youths. So yes, invite your friends to YDM!

Tired of being locked up in your room studying? Feeling disappointed because your tummy's starting to bulge? Then join us and the rest of the church at the Walk For Health this Sunday, 7th November 2010 at Tasek. Registration fee is $1, but if you'd like a shirt, you'll have to pay $12 and you'll have to wait a while for the shirts. Meet at church at 3pm.

KidsGames would be held in Jigsaw Primary School, Berakas on 12 and 13 November 2010; 2-5pm on both days. Please do come and help out if you can! A training session would be held TOMORROW, 5th November 2010, in the Parish Hall from 2-4pm.

To those concerned, you are REQUIRED to attend the confirmation class & rehearsal on Saturday, 13th November 2010, 6-8pm. Following that, confirmation would be held at the 7:45am English Service (In other terms, 1st service) on the 21st of November.

The annual Nativity Play would be held on Monday, 22nd November, 7-10pm at St. Andrew's School. Come and join us as we gear into the Christmas season.

Parents Appreciation & Awards Night is at iLotus this year, on Friday, 26th November from 7-10pm. Bring your parents along, because what is a parents appreciation night if there are no parents to appreciate? ;) Tickets would be sold soon; it's free for your parents, but you've got to pay $15 for your own ticket. Basically, you'll be paying for your parents' and your own dinner. So yes, use some of the allowance you get (If you do get allowances) and buy your parents dinner for once. =D To those interested to perform something for your parents, please contact Sheiela or Blessy via facebook, email or SMS. Just so you know, there won't be any YDM on Saturday, 27th November. =)

YDM would also be carolling this year together with KOOL; more details would be coming soon.

Music classes
Apart from that, please do be advised that guitar classes have ended for the year. Bass, drum and piano classes would soon be closing for the year. HOWEVER, sign ups are open for 2011. Those who would like to continue can do so as well; or you may want to learn and try out a new instrument. If you'd like to, please do sign up with the following:

My uncle was in Dubai when he had a stroke. I prayed hard for his recovery. When I finished my prayer, I got news that he was conscious and awake. Praise God!

We'll be having a Girl's Day Out this Saturday (22nd May) from 4 til 6pm, the usual YDM time. Meet at church at 4pm SHARP! We'll walk over to Yayasan for a little something something. Curious eh? Guess you'll have to come and find out that 'something' for yourself. ;p If you're late, or going to be late, message to inform Lorene (8851050) and meet us at Yayasan itself.

After our little activity, we'll walk back to church, so ask your parents to pick you up from church at 6pm. However, of course, you're welcome to stay on, have dinner at the pasar, and join us for GDOP at 8pm.

Boiler Room Drop-In Box Question: How do you listen to God's voice? What does it sound like?

It might make you feel better to know that you're not the first person to ask this. Just about every Christian (past, present and future) who seeks God has asked this question. God can speak to us in many different ways. It can be through a physically tangible form, like an audible voice or a sign, or it can be through the Bible, or through our relationships with our friends or family, or through the Holy Spirit, or through our conscience, etc.

Look at the Bible. Look at all the different ways God spoke to people. Moses (burning bush), Gideon (dew and fleece), Paul (bright light and a voice), and so on. But nowadays, many people don't often have these physically tangible forms of communication with God, let alone hear an audible voice. But look back at the first sentence in this paragraph. Look at the Bible. We have the whole complete Word of God. It is one of the major ways that God speaks to us. Remember that when you rely on the Word of God, it will never lead you astray.

We should spend time listening to God's voice by reading the Bible, by spending time in prayer, or just in quiet thought about Him and His promises, or even in worship. The more time we spend with Him, the more easily we recognize His voice and when He is speaking to us.

Boiler Room Drop-In Box Question: How does the Trinity work?

Here's the thing-- you have to remember that the Trinity is not really meant to be understood. It's one of the concepts of God that we as humans cannot understand because it is beyond our comprehension. Once you accept this, it is easier to discuss.

The Holy Trinity usually refers to God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. They are also called the Triune God ('Triune' means 'three in one'). The basic idea here is that they are three distinct "Persons" (for lack of a better word), but they are also one God. It is important to realize that this does NOT mean that there are three Gods. God is God. Jesus is God. The Holy Spirit is God. God is Jesus is the Holy Spirit. Distinct and individual, but the same. 3 = 1. Three Persons. One God.

Logically and mathematically, this does not really make sense. But this is God we're talking about. We are unable to make sense of God with our human minds.

Just to get you ready for camp, here's a list of things to pack!

1) Change of clothes for 4 days, including towel and sleepwear :) Please remember your UNDERWEAR! hehe
2) Toiletries
3) Sandals (for walking around)
4) Slippers for in the shower
5) Sports shoes
*pls DO NOT SHOWER with the shoes you're walking around with!
6) Sleeping bag/mattress plus pillows, blankies and stuffed animals (if you want to, but please leave your actual bed at home!)
7) Water bottle
8) Bible
9) Stationery

Please avoid bringing expensive items like game consoles, mp3/mp4 players and your mobile phones for safety reasons, and plus they will distract you from all the fun stuff happening at camp! :)

A day in the sun. We had a few physcial challenge but most of all fun together as boys.. macho-boys that is. I suppose many nowadays would not like to stereotype boys and man as sweat and brawns. But we must admit, that's definitely what we are... to be active physically and spiritually.

Calling all boys! Calling all boys! And men too! Here's a reminder about the Macho Day which will be held tomorrow at 3pm at Muara Beach. Bring along some water, clothes, finger food, and some sunblock if you want to. If any of you have problems with transport getting to the beach, please meet me(Ryan) at church at 1pm tomorrow! Latest by 1.30 and I will take you guys to the bus station and we'll take the public bus. What are we to expect tomorrow? Some man power, endurance and some thinking skills too ;) You guys have to find out so we'll see you there! We've posted some pictures of the recent Youth Connect Event held on Saturday, 30 January 2010 at St Andrew's Church where 90+ youths attended for an evening of food, fun and fellowship.

For our first Youth Connect Event of the year, we are excited with all the possibilities and opportunities to connect with youths other than those from YDM. It reminds us of our purpose statement that we are to Reach, Connect, Discover, Grow and Honour God. We are taking it one step at a time, and now we are beginning to see that connecting with others is slowly becoming a culture in YDM. It is simply Jesus-Culture.

Well heads up. YDM will be having the first Youth Connect Event for 2010 on Saturday, 30th January at 7-10pm, St Andrew's Church. Please bring and share dinner. It'll be a night of fellowship and games, so bring a friend along.

2010 ... On Solid Rock

2010 has arrived and with a new year there's a renewed sense of purpose. It is quite funny how we have a 'mental reset button' in our subconsciousness. When one year ends and a new year arrives, we begin to feel refreshed and a certain courage rises up within us telling us, "You a have new beginning and a renewed chance."

At least that's how I feel.

For YDM, we have had our little challenges. As the Youth Worker and leader of YDM; I've been stretched in many ways. I've seen youths walk away from God and some growing stronger. I've cried with a few and rejoiced with a few. I've been ignored by a few and acknowledged by a few. Hated by a few and loved by a few. Each step was a new experience from me. I didn't know where to start or where we should be going. All I know is that every youth out there is in need of love as I am... each one is in need of a rescue as I am... each one is in need of a dream as I am... each one is special and I am.

The current biggest challenge for our youths are typical to every young person out there, yet in recent years these challenges have intensified. The problems and challenges are relationships, sexuality, parents, identity, divorces, popularity, studies, gossips, friendships, forgiveness... and more. Countless nights I have asked God for wisdom and countless times I've heard nothing. The one word I got for 2009 that will continue for my lifetime is "GRACE". In the midst of all that we have gone through individually and corporately as a youth ministry I have realized that I am in His grace. A love that I do not deserve and yet have been given without reservations. This is the same grace... unconditional love that each one of us are in need of.

This year theme is "ON SOLID ROCK". The core team and I prays that we will not only become a believer of Jesus Christ but also begin to BE a Christian. On Solid Rock is about putting our hopes on the Author and Perfecter of our faith and being sure-footed on Christ our Solid Rock. You and I are responsible and accountable to God and to each other to mature. YDM has to step up to the challenge, to have deeper roots in the Word and firm foundations so when troubles come the "house" that Christ builds on the Solid Rock will not tumble and fall, rather it will be steadfast and sure.

YDM held its first Parents' Appreciation Dinner & Awards Nite on Saturday, 27th November 2009 at the i-Lotus Restaurant. Lorene and a team of D-team leaders came up with several activities for the evening. There were games and some presentations. We also had our very own Michelle and Ryan as emcees for the evening. It was an evening full of laughter and smiles.

There were some presentations during the evening family affair. A song entitled "Because You Loved Me" was presented by Sheiela, Anna, Shirley Indah, Jack, Samuel Kong, Caroline and Terence; Michelle & Sarah presented a song entitled "Ready, Set, Don't Go"; Caroline & Sheiela presented a dance to the song "The Wind Beneath My Wings"; and a video presentation that was directed and produced by Jack Holtby.

Beach Day!

Where: Muara Beach
Time: 2pm - 6pm

Everyone is to meet at church at 2pm. Coming back, we should reach church by about 6:30pm, so let your parents know the pickup time.

The YDM Christmas party is coming up on the 21st of December, which is this Sunday!

It's a bring-n-share, so please bring a dish along with you. Oh, and also bring a gift along since we're doing a gift exchange! Remember, it's an exchange, i.e. if you don't bring a gift, you won't be able to take part in the gift exchange, so don't forget. And if you guys have some fun board games you'd like to bring along, please do.

We do apologize again for not keeping this blog updated regularly...partially coz there's nothing much happening in YDM and also most of those who's responsible to update this blog are busy. Anyway, we do encourage you guys to email us if you have anything you wish to share just to make this blog a bit more inspirational for others rather than just notices and announcements. Guys & Gals! More Than Gold this Saturday at YDM! Just to reiterate:

"More Than Gold" is the theme that churches and agencies are partnering together on utilizing the same literature, videos and other resources during major multi-sport events such as the Commonwealth Games, Pan Am Games, and the Olympics.

To the athlete in these events, the phrase "More than Gold" means he or she has prepared long years to achieve success in winning a gold medal-and all that goes with it. To hundreds of gold medalists who have made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ, though, the phrase means something far more important. It means they realize that their faith is worth More than Gold (1 Peter 1:7). These Olympians or athletes are choosing to partner with churches and ministries in every country-with this goal: To let every person know that although they desire a gold medal, their faith is worth More than Gold.

Come to the SAC Parish Hall this Saturday, 23rd August 2008 at 4.00pm!

This week we'll be having an invited speaker, Pastor Lawrence from Singapore to inspire us in YDM! Most of us who attended the combined CG service last night was definitely blessed by him and the message that God has inspired him to share. Having said that, i would really encourage you guys to attend this week's service with Pastor Lawrence although we do know some of you are having your mock exams but hey, i'm sure you can spare 45 minutes for God can't you? :)

Ahhh...a thousand apologies for not having this blog updated. Just a quick announcement that this week, St Andrew's Church will not be having a normal service but rather a Youth Sunday service week. In other words, the youths of St Andrew's Church will be handling service this week in church!

Hi campers! I know everyone's missing camp, but we've got Friday to look forward to!

Meet at St. Andrew's School at 8:00am on Friday, 27th June 2008. We'll be going to Muara Beach by bus, so please bring $8 as bus fare. Parents to pick up from school at 6:00pm.

Note to group leaders: Please try ASAP to confirm which of your group members will be able to make it on Friday. We'll need the numbers to figure out the bus logistics.

Oh, and it's gonna be a bring-n-share, so please bring some food along too. And as always with beach outings, it'd be better if the food were easy to just "pick up and eat". Getting sand in your food = yuck.

Some things to bring (besides the food and $8):

At least one set of extra clothes & towel (Duh!)
Frisbees, beachballs, kites, and whatever other beach toys you'd like to bring
Plenty of sunblock for all you "burnable" people

Can't wait to see you guys there!

Worship...

We all know camp just went by and the hype is still around. Some could be losing it already but regardless of where you stand right now, just remember that you need to worship God daily not because you've had an encounter with him during 18.06.08 - 21.06.08 but simply because He is our loving God who deserves to be worship each and every single day of our lives. In all things that you do, do not forget to glorify Him.

A lot would be expecting to see pictures and videos of the camp. Eventually it will be up...don't stress! Right now, i just think you guys should watch this clip first.
