Facing The Giants

Again, we apologize for the lack of updates. Responding to all the youths' demands who are overseas or in Janet's case 'over-border' (haha!), here's a quick update on what we've been up to. Last week in YDM, we've decided to take a time out session from what seemed to be like our normal routined weekly YDM agenda already and swapping it with a movie session instead. Nope, it wasn't a movie outing to our local cinema but rather, we made our own little 'cinema' in church. The only thing we lacked was comfortable self-reclining seats, movie trailers, beverages and movie spoilers. Other than that, I’d say we qualify to start our own cinema. Haha. Show started approximately around 4.30 pm after having a short session of praise & worship. It’s always good to have praise & worship regardless of what the agenda is yes?

So, what have the boss decide to inspire our mind with?

Facing The Giants.

For those who haven’t watched this movie, it is highly recommended to each and every one of you who needs something to inspire you or reignite your spiritual life. Although you would've already assumed judging from the picture/trailer, this would probably relate only to those who enjoy football or sports, I'd say you should still go ahead and give it a try because most of the youths who watched this on Saturday agreed that there’s wasn’t really too much about the sport. The whole football thing is only there to make the storyline. The morality and value in the movie can definitely be applied in our daily lives.

In everyone's life i'm sure we have our own 'giants'. From personal issues to health issues to financial issues. But what are we going to do about them? Let it rule over our life? We need to have faith in God that He will overcome all our needs because the Bible did state afterall that this is the day that the Lord has made, not the day that the devil has made. Easier said than done but hey, you gotta have faith in Him. It's never easy but you'll never know where He'll take you if you just take a small step with faith.Read passage 1 Samuel 17:32-49.

Harry Emerson Fosdick, author and minister of Riverside Church in New York City for several years once wrote concerning fear and faith:

"Fear imprisons, faith liberates; fear paralyzes, faith empowers; fear disheartens, faith encourages; fear sickens, faith heals; fear makes useless, faith makes serviceable—and, most of all, fear puts hopelessness at the heart of life, while faith rejoices in its God."

The Israelites when they saw Goliath like those disciples when they saw the wind and the waves, felt powerless. They were unable to help themselves, unable to overcome the danger around them. However they witnessed how we can place our faith in God, and God will offer assistance. In our lives, we cannot control what will happen from one minute to the next. Rather than fighting this truth we should embrace this because that truth leads us back to God.

God has a picture of our lives. Sometimes He calms the storm. Other times He lets the storm rage and calms his child. In either situation we may find comfort in the fact that God will be with us. Just have faith in the Lord and you'll see that you will overcome the giants in your lives. Just remember to give all glory and honour back to Him. Like the movie itself says "We win, we praise Him, we lose, we praise Him!"
